'Jyothi Lakshmi' Review: Puri Misfires

'Jyothi Lakshmi' Review: Puri Misfires

Movie: Jyothi Lakshmi
Rating: 2.5/5
Banner: C. K. Entertainments, Sri Subha Swetha Films
Cast: Charmee, Satya, Bramhanandham, Sakshi Rami Reddy and Others
Cinematography: P.G. Vinda
Music: Sunil Kashyap
Story: Malladi
Editor: S. R. Sekhar
Producers: Swethalana, Varun, Teja
Screenplay, Dialogues and Direction: Puri Jagannadh
Release Date: June 12, 2015

Jyothi Lakshmi, the dancer who was popular along with her sister Jayamalini was the item girl and vamp of the ’60s and ’70s. She was also seen in a lot of action films of her time, though mostly B and C grade films. Well, Puri Jagannadh pays an ode to her and item girls of all ages by addressing issues that matter most to them by giving it a contemporary touch. Let’s check out how the film has come up…

Story:
The film starts off with two young men scouting pimps and visiting brothels to get the right girl that the film’s hero Satya (Satya) wants. Well, he even gets on to Lapaki app to find a girl which helps them in finding a house instead. After searching for two days, Satya finally finds the girl he wants which happens to be Jyothilakshmi (Charmme Kaur). He insists on marrying her and thanks to her quick wit, gets her out of the place even before he is found and beaten by the villains.

So do they escape and get married? Is their’s a happily ever after story? The rest of the story shows this.

Artistes’ Performances:
Charmme plays the lead and also co-produces the film. Well, it is said that heroines mostly do author-backed roles towards the end of their careers and probably that holds true for Charmme too. She might be at the fag end of her career as a glam heroine, but she seems to be preparing herself for her new role as a producer.

As for her character, it surely does not surprise you and Charmme plays it in a subdued and easy-going manner without shouting from rooftops.

Satya played by Satya plays the supporting lead to Charmme. His character complements Charmme’s role and he plays the gardener to his wife.

'Asura' Review: Misses Target

'Asura' Review: Misses Target

Movie: Asura
Rating: 2.75/5
Banner: Devas Media and Entertainments, Kushal Media and Aran Media Works
Cast: Nara Rohit, Ravi Varma, Priya Benerji and Others
Music: Sai Kartheek
Cinematography: S V Vishweswer
Editor: Dharmendra Kakarala
Producer: Krishna Vijay, Shyam
Written and Directed By: Krishna Vijay
Release Date: June 5, 2015

Nara Rohit has been trying to do something different since his first film Banam, but he hasn’t been having much success. Though his efforts are being appreciated, he hasn’t been making money financially as his films have been weak in terms of narration. In fact, his stories would be better presented if they are told more excitingly. However, his directors haven’t been able to do so and that has resulted in his films not doing well at the box office.

Well, the story is a cat and mouse game of sorts between Charlie (Ravi Varma) and jailor (Rohit). Charlie is sentenced to death and he tries to run away from it. On the other hand, Rohit chases him as he is intolerant of even small mistakes.

However, the problem with the film is that it is not exciting enough and the way the story has been told is outright boring as it lacks entertainment quotient. Another major problem is the way the characters have been developed. For example, it is said that Charlie is a hardcore and notorious criminal. But you never get to see that side of him. In fact, there is a song to even build up the image they want to project, though you still have to clue as to what he is up to.

And Charlie keeps mentioning that he wants to run away from the jail, but you are never shown as to how he wants to escape from the jail. There is a dialogue where he tells one of his aides to fly kites after getting out from the jail and that shows how weak his character is.

On the other hand, though the hero is called ‘rakshasudu’, one never gets to see any such traits in him. In fact, if the villain is intelligent, then the hero’s role gets elevated, but if the villain is passive, then the hero does not have a chance to show off his heroism. In fact, the entire story revolves around one twist in the climax. While cat and mouse games do have potential, since the narration is too slow, Asura fails to appeal to the audiences.

'Pandaga Chesko' Review: Routine Fare

'Pandaga Chesko' Review: Routine Fare

Movie: Pandaga Chesko
Rating: 2.75/5
Banner: United Movies
Cast: Ram, Rakul Preet Singh, Sonal Chauhan, Brahmanandam, M S Narayana, Vennela Kishore and Others
Music: S S Thaman
Cinematography: Sameer Reddy

Release Date: May 29, 2015

Ram returns after a long time with Pandaga Chesko. Well, the one dialogue that almost created a controversy of sorts has surely generated quite a bit of curiosity. So let’s see how the film has come up…

Story:
Karthik (Ram) runs his own company in Portugal. One day he is tracked by Weekend Venkata Rao (Brahmanandam) who wants him to marry Anushka (Sonal Chauhan) another business woman who is in a rush to find a groom so that she does not miss out on her Rs 3000 crore property. Well, meanwhile Karthik goes to India and ends up meeting Divya (Rakul Preet Singh). The rest of the story tracks Karthik, Divya, Anushka and is about who gets who.

Artistes’ Performances:
Ram is back after a long break and looks quite energetic. In the past, he would more or less remind one of Pawan Kalyan. But he seems to have worked on it and looks fresh and ready to go. As always he manages all emotions rather well.

Rakul Preet Singh is her usual best. Looks good and dresses pretty, though she is mostly in half sarees. Sonal Chauhan adds to the glam quotient and pulls off her part well.

Bramhmanandam as Weekend Venkata Rao gets his share of funny dialogues as does MS Narayana. Sampath Raj, Rao Ramesh, Sai Kumar get decent roles among the ensemble cast. The rest of the cast also puts in performances in accordance with their character requirements.
